We like Dalton M. Ghetti’s Carved Pencil Micro Sculptures

Dalton M. Ghetti's Pencil Whittling Nunchucks

Not a day passes where we don’t stumble upon some incredible, interesting or just plain cool item on the internet. Even as fortunate as we are to be surrounded by the world-renowned beauty of Victoria, BC and Vancouver Island we still enjoy any opportunity to surf the web for inspiration the world over.

Recently the work of Dalton M. Ghetti has been making it’s rounds in the social sphere. Proof positive that spreading awareness for your product via Facebook and other social media is a winning strategy — but we’ve digressed. Allow us to introduce (or perhaps reintroduce) you to the amazing miniature sculptures of Ghetti. Dalton has carved these brilliant bits into the lead of old pencils. Patient and exacting, these pencil carvings are as brilliant as they are intricate. He begins by whittling down the pencil to the lead to create the foundation for the sculpture then starts the painstaking process of patiently removing each miniscule layer of wood and lead until he’s created another masterpiece of modern art.

Here are a few of our favorites, we hope you enjoy them as much as we have!

  • http://twitter.com/lkl Laura K. Lawless

Amazing! I’ll never look at a regular old #2 the same way.

  • jfranceska

Absolutely incredible! It makes you realize that you can find creativity in so many different places if you just learn to look at things differently. Do you see tiny sculpture of a boot in your mind when you look at your pencil? Probably not, but you can find other things in your world that unleash your own creativity. What a great catalyst :)

  • http://www.idreamdigital.com iDreamDigital

Has anyone ever seen a whittling contest?  I have not personally but i’ve heard tell that one of the more common tests of a master whittler is to create a ball, or two, inside of various shaped cages.
